I'm not seeing an image on my background. What's wrong?

There are numerous reasons the camera may not be correctly updating. If you don't see an image on the desktop background, check first the colour of the DeskCam icon in the system tray. If it is green, DeskCam is still trying to update. If it is gray, it has attempted to update and has failed. To find out the error that caused this, select "About..." from the main menu. Then click on the "View log..." button. The messages at the bottom of this screen will give you some hint as to what went wrong.

The most common cause of this is that the server providing the web cam is down or is having some sort of network problem. The best way to test this is to copy the URL you specified for the current camera, and paste it directly into your web browser. If your web browser has trouble displaying the image, then the problem is most likely with the server providing the web cam. If your web browser displays the image correctly, but DeskCam still will not display it, contact us for technical support. Send details of your problem to support@deskcam.net.

Why is the image on my desktop so blurry?

The resolution of the image is determined by the server providing the web cam, and is often quite small. Resizing an image does not add detail, so the resulting image can appear blurry. This is not a defect in the software.

Do you support other movie formats such as Quicktime or AVI?

At the moment, DeskCam only supports the MPEG format. There are plans to add support for Quicktime, AVI, and MNG in future versions.

Can DeskCam display a montage of cameras at the same time?
Can DeskCam cycle through my list of cameras?

Both of these features have been requested by numerous users, and are planned for a future version of DeskCam.

How do I uninstall DeskCam?

Open the Windows Control Panel from your Start menu. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs. Select DeskCam from the list of installed software, and click the "Add/Remove..." button. This will remove DeskCam from your system.

Why does DeskCam display advertisements?

DeskCam is advertiser support software. This means that the software is provided to you with all features enabled at absolutely no cost. In exchange for this, advertisements are displayed on your desktop.

I hate seeing the ads. Is there any way I can get rid of them?

At the current time, there is no advertisement-free version of DeskCam that you can purchase, though we are considering offering this if there is sufficient demand. If you would be willing to purchase an ad-free version, contact us at info@deskcam.net.
