Getting Cams
When adding a new web cam, the most important piece of information you must enter
is the URL. Sometimes finding out what the exact URL is can be a little tricky.
These instructions tell you how to do it with just about any web cam you find
on the Internet.
Using your web browser, go to the site that has the web cam that you are
interested in. Go to the page that has the live image displayed.
Right-click on the live image with your mouse, and you should see a
pop-up menu. (Sometimes, you might not see a pop-up menu--see below
for what to do in that situtation).
If you are using Netscape, select "Copy Image Location" from the menu.
This places a copy of the URL you need on the clipboard. Then, when adding
a camera in DeskCam, place the cursor in the URL field and hit Control-V.
This will paste the URL for you.
If you are using Internet Explorer, right-click on the image and select
"Properties". Make a note of the URL listed on the properties dialog that
appears, and enter that manually into the URL field.
If, when you right-click on the live image, you don't see a pop-up menu, it
usually means the camera is being displayed on the web page using a Java applet.
DeskCam does not display cameras broadcast using this technique. Many web
sites that have such web cams have a non-Java version as well. Search the site you are
interested in for non-Java versions of web cams. If a site broadcasts a web cam
exclusively with a Java applet, it cannot be viewed by DeskCam.
Next, find out about DeskCam's options.
