Making Movies
One of the coolest features of DeskCam is its ability to make time-lapse movies out of images
fetched from a web cam. To access this feature, select "Movies..." from the main menu.

| DeskCam Movies |
To make movies, you must tell DeskCam to save images on your hard disk. By default, DeskCam
does not save any images. Change the days and hours displayed in the dialog to specify the period
of time for which you would like to save images. The dialog displays an estimate of how
many frames in the movie this will generate. This is all that you need to do to begin.
Click OK and your images will start saving.
There are two other options that you can set in this dialog. The "Only save if image differs
from previous" checkbox specifies that you want DeskCam to check each fetched image to see
if it is different from the last one. If they are the same it won't save the image, and
so you won't get any duplicate frames in your movie.
The other option in this dialog is the saved image format. The default is JPEG,
but you can also choose BMP, PNG, or GIF. We recommend you use JPEG since it is so
good at representing most photographs in such small files.
Once DeskCam has saved some images, you can try and create your first movie. Go back to the
Movie dialog by selecting "Movies..." from the main menu. Click on the "Create Movie..." button.
If you have saved images from multiple cameras, you will be prompted to choose which camera's
images you wish to use. Then you will be prompted for a filename for your MPEG movie file.
Choose a filename and click OK. Movie generation will begin. If you have many frames, this
may take a while, so please be patient. Once the movie is generated, click on the "View movie"
button to launch your movie.
You can also click the "Delete Images..." button in the Movies dialog to clean up images that
have been saved. Once you have successfully generated a movie, you can safely delete the images
used to generate it.
